Barbarians at the Gate? Revolutions in wine from the Swartland to Rioja

Wines have been made in the same regions and in the same way for centuries. It is what entrances so many of us about wine – an unbroken link to the past.

But are these tales always true? In reality, much of what we consider today to be ‘classic’ wines are relatively modern constructs, and determined revolutionaries are opening our eyes to new or even pre-modern ideas around style and place.

Join Nik Darlington, founder of Red Squirrel Wine and the 2017 recipient of the IWSC’s outstanding achievement award, to explore the vibrant revolutions taking place in the wine world, with a particular focus on Rioja in Spain and the Swartland in South Africa.

The Wines:

Eekhoring Wit 2018, Swartland, South Africa

Eekhoring Rooi 2018, Swartland, South Africa

Laventura Rioja “Lanave” 2016, Rioja, Spain
