Tell us how Parmesan & Pumpkin began?
I (Chris) come from a long line of carpenters, my grandfather was Head Carpenter at Windsor Castle, so you could say it’s in the blood! We had an idea to combine our passion for food (I’m a former chef) and our love for design, to produce beautiful and practical kitchen wares. We are a husband and wife team, I produce our products and we both design them.
What is special about Parmesan & Pumpkin?
All of our products are made by hand in our workshop on Exmoor, North Devon. Our designs are inspired by our love for food and it’s presentation or preparation, and made to last a lifetime. We like to think of them as practical works of art. We road test all of our products in our home before launching them.
What can you tell us about the sustainability of your product?
We source all of our woods from FSC approved stockists. We use every little piece of the woods that we buy, and even use the offcuts that cannot be used for anything else, to heat our home.
Do you have a favourite or best-selling design/product you can tell us about?
Our current best seller is the Helium Meat Carving Board. A hunking circular board, with reservoirs and bowls to catch those lovely meat juices. It can also be used as a chopping block on its reverse. It’s available in Black Walnut or Ripple Ash, and is quite a showstopper.
What can people expect when they find you at the Cheltenham Food and Drink Festival?
They can expect to find a stall full of our lovingly handmade items, from large natural edge boards for cheese and charcuterie, to salad platters, to long handled wooden spoons and the best rolling pins they’ve ever owned, being sold by the very hands that made them. They can talk to the passionate maker and find out what type of wood has been used, and even where that wood was grown, and we can even advise the best uses for those products, as we love food as much as we love to create!
What are you looking forward to about Cheltenham Food and Drink Festival?
Not surprisingly, we are looking forward to the great selection of fantastic artisan food and drink on offer. We thoroughly enjoyed the event last year, there was some lovely produce available. We are cheese fiends in particular, so will be heading straight to those stalls first.
